Competitive Racing Team

Background and Goals

The MCRRC racing team was established in the spring of 2013 to assemble and recognize highly talented and competitive members of MCRRC, promote competitive distance running among club members, and increase the visibility of MCRRC within the broader running community. The program establishes racing teams to compete at races in the metropolitan Washington, DC area.

MCRRC Membership

All racing team applicants and members must be registered as a member of the Montgomery County Road Runner Club (MCRRC).  Membership must be current in order to remain on the team. Visit the home page and click on “Join” for more information.

Benefits of Membership

In addition to the pride in representing MCRRC, members of the competitive racing team will receive a racing team singlet and long-sleeve zip-up or jacket.  Runners will also receive complimentary entries into selected MCRRC races and possibly subsidized entries to local races and team competitions. 

Time Standard

All members must also successfully meet or exceed the established time standards for their age and gender category in at least one (1) distance within the previous 12 months.  The validity of these times will be determined by the racing team coordinators and committee.  The racing team coordinators will monitor the status of the time standards to ensure that all team members continue to satisfy the standard. The standards are as follows:

Racing and Volunteering Schedules

Members of MCRRC racing teams need to compete on an MCRRC team in 5 of the 7 races listed below. The entry fee for races denoted with an “*” will be covered by the Club. In the event a runner cannot fulfill the racing requirements due to injury or other factors, the runner can volunteer instead to fulfill obligations. All team members are encouraged to volunteer at Run for the Roses 5k in June. Additionally, assisting with the cross country series for kids is strongly advised.

Members of the MCRRC racing teams will volunteer for two (2) Club events of the individual’s choosing. Events could include being a pace coach, volunteering at a race, or giving a presentation to a training program, such as First Time Marathon Program or Speed Development Program. In addition, members will help organize the team coordinator with logistics for one race per year.

Team Code of Conduct

  • Members are expected to show good moral integrity, good sportsmanship, and respect towards team members, competitors, and MCRRC members at all times.
  • Members are expected to maintain personal health standards commensurate with participation in distance running events.
  • Members are expected to abide by all local, state, and federal laws.
  • Members are expected to be a good ambassador for the team not only in competitions and practices, but any event in which they may be representing MCRRC.
  • Members are expected to abide by WADA and USADA anti-doping rules and regulations.
  • Members are expected to meet and maintain the performance standards set by the Committee.
  • Members are expected to abide by the rulings of the Committee, with the understanding that questions and concerns may be addressed to members of the Committee for discussion and vote in Committee meetings.

Application and Selection Process

A committee will review applications. Selection will be based mainly on fastest performance across a range of distances, but consideration may be given to club participation either as a runner or volunteer when deciding between applicants with similar racing times.  The 2015 Race Team roster will be announced late December on MCRRC-Info Yahoo! Group.
