Tuesday/Thursday Easy Runs
Tuesdays and Thursdays provide club members of varying speeds with a splendid opportunity to enjoy the camaraderie of running with others at a conversational pace. Most days there will be other runners who essay courses of varying lengths (usually 4-7 miles) at between an 8 and 12-or-more minutes-per-mile clip. Runners at all levels of experience and ability participate and we welcome and encourage new participants. We start non-promptly at 6:30 PM (there is a minute or two grace period for those who may be caught in traffic). We typically seek out interesting and inexpensive restaurants for a (nonobligatory) post-run dinner.
We will only meet on Thursdays until the Pikes Peek 10K. The first Tuesday that we meet will be May 4th.
Summer Running at Lake Needwood
During the summer months (mid-April - mid-September) our runs start at the trailhead at scenic Lake Needwood off Avery Rd. in Rockville and take to the wooded, paved hiker-biker paths. The woods provide a cooler venue and some glimpses of deer and other wildlife. Some regulars even run trails. A group of our summer runners appear in the accompanying picture.
The main entrance is located just southwest of the intersection of Muncaster Mill and Avery Rds. in Rockville. At the stop sign at the end of the entrance road to Lake Needwood from Avery Rd., turn left. (If you enter from Needwood Rd. continue along that entrance road-Beach Dr-to the stop sign. Go through the stop sign). Follow the road around to the second parking lot. Bathrooms are on the side of the road opposite the parking lot. The trailhead is at the far end of this parking lot.
Fall-Spring Running in Rockville
In mid-September, we switch sites and run in downtown Rockville on routes that are a bit better lit. Several routes of varying length have been created. We run there until mid-April until there is more daylight.
During the winter months (September-April) we meet at the multi-tiered County Parking Garage at Fleet St. and Maryland Ave. in Rockville. We can park free in the garage after 6 PM. Bathrooms are available in the county office building attached to the garage.
