MCRRC/Quantico Orienteering Challenge

Little Bennett Park, March 8

Approximately 5K, 215 meters climb

Hearty thanks to all runners who came out to try the sport of Orienteering!

The MCRRC/Quantico Orienteering Challenge was designed for a close finish and lived up to this expectation. To the credit of the MCRRC, three of the club's outstanding cross country men placed in the top ten, with Daniel Quinn winning the race outright.

It must be realized that Orienteering is a lot like a video game: it can be played on four increasing levels of technical difficulty. On Level One you may easily pick off sloths armed with pop guns, but on Level Four you quickly become the prey of velociraptors firing nuclear cannons. The MCRRC/Quantico Challenge had a technical difficulty of approximately 1.5. Next year, we will definitely jack up the technical difficulty to 2 (with a simpler course for those who want to ease their way into the sport).

However, you don't have to wait until next year to try the intriguing sport of Orienteering. The Quantico Orienteering Club hosts two events each month. Beginner instruction is always available (just ask). Recorded information about Orienteering events is always available 24 hours per day at 703-528-INFO. Or check out the Quantico homepage
