Online Registration is now open!

Winter Half Marathon and Marathon Program

MCRRC's Half Marathon and Marathon Training Program is designed for runners who are accustomed to running middle distances and who want to prepare for their first distance event or improve upon their past half marathon or marathon performance. The 16-week program will run from January 18, 2012 to May 1, 2012. It targets the Frederick Half Marathon, which takes place in early May 2012. However, this program will help you prepare for spring races such as the April Cherry Blossom 10 Mile Run, and the March Shamrock and National Half Marathons.

Criteria for participation

This program is open to any healthy adult. However, each registrant should have a mileage base of at least 14 miles per week and be able to comfortably run 6 miles without stopping. We will place you in the appropriate pace group prior to the first long run. We will need a current race time prior to the start of the program so that you are placed in the appropriate pace group. There are many races such as the Rockville10k or MCRRC’s Turkey Burnoff that you can run to get a current race time. Due to the time limits of our goal race, a 10k race time of under 74 minutes or a 5 mile race time of under 58 minutes is required.

Orientation

Orientation will be held Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 6:30 PM at Wootton High School. Wootton is located at 2100 Wootton Parkway, Rockville, MD 20850. Details about the program will be discussed and you will meet the program staff. Please come prepared to run as we will do a short run to go over the warm up route and track workout information.

Workout Schedule

There are 2 coached, group workouts held every week. Other workouts listed will be on your own with mileage stated.
