Half Marathon Program
REGISTRATION FOR THE 2010 HALF MARTHON PROGRAM IS NOW CLOSED.
The 2010 Half Marthon Training Program has reached capacity.
Please revisit us next year if you were not able to get in this year's program! Registration will open in March of 2011.
MCRRC’s Half Marathon Training Program is designed for runners who are accustomed to running middle distances and who want to prepare for their first distance event or improve upon their past half marathon performance. The 15-week program targets the Parks Half Marathon Race which takes place, Sunday, September 12, 2010.
Running and Racing Prerequisites
Each HM registrant should have a regular mileage base of at least 14 miles per week and be comfortable running 6 continuous miles. We have this requirement in place so participants can safely transition into the mileage requirements of our program. We will post a 4 week pre-program readiness plan that can help get you up to where you need to be to begin the HM training.
We will also need a current race time (spring 2010) prior to the start of the program so that you are placed in the appropriate pace group. Due to the time limits of our goal race, a 10K race time of no more than 74 min, a 5-mile race time of 58 min, or a 5k race time of 35 min is required.
Workout Schedule
Weekly Tuesday Workouts
Participants will meet Tuesdays at 6:30 PM at Montgomery College, Rockville campus track, 51 Mannakee St., Rockville, MD 20850. These workouts will focus on building leg strength and speed through running intervals as well as hill workouts. The schedule will also include a number of trail runs at different locations.
Saturday Long Runs
Our long runs will help develop endurance and will take place each Saturday. Distances will increase and then taper as the program progresses. The location and starting times for the Saturday long runs will vary.
Orientation
Tuesday, May 25, 2010, 6:30 PM, Montgomery College, Rockville campus track. Please come to the track bleachers ready to run, as we will do a running "tour" of the campus and track immediately following the meeting.
Pace Groups
Your pace group assignment will be based on the race times that you enter upon registering. If you have no recent race time, arrangements will be made to do a time trial.
Program Fee and Volunteer Requirement
The non-refundable fee for this training program is $60.00. This payment covers the 15-week program, your race entry fee, and a technical training shirt.
MCRRC is a volunteer organization, as are all its programs, including the Half Marathon Program. To continue to promote volunteerism, our participants will also be asked to volunteer in at least one club race or event. We will make you aware of those opportunities as they arise.
NOTE: MCRRC Membership Is Required. See About MCRRC for more information and to join.
Communications
We use our Yahoo! group, HM Yahoo site to post our schedule, training program and tips, announcements, and discussion topics. The following will be necessary when you register, 1) your full name 2) current e-mail address and 3) an indication that you are a member of both MCRRC and the 2010 Half Marathon program.
