5K Walking Program
Registration for the 2011 season will remain open until September 1st.
This program is designed for walkers who want to improve their fitness level and complete a 5K (3.1 mi) distance with ease. All shapes, sizes and skill levels are welcomed!! Training will focus on incrementally increasing participants’ endurance and speed. Interested persons who have not been active at all, and/or have reservations about their fitness level, should check with their physician before registering.
Note: There is a free, informal-drop-in walk/run offering which begins each year in June and continues until this program begins. This option takes Tuesday and Thursday evenings at King Farm Park from 6:00-7:00 PM. King Farm Park is located at the corner of Deer Meadow Lane and Grand Champion Drive in Rockville, MD. Program Schedule
Orientation - Wednesday, August 17, 2011, 6:30 PM, Montgomery College, Rockville Campus, Technical Center Room TC 232. Come dressed to walk, and bring water. Click on the link above for directions.
Weekly Tuesday Night Track sessions will begin August 23rd at 7:00 PM, Montgomery College track. The track location will move to a local high school mid September.
Sunday Long Walks begin August 21st, 8:00 AM King Farm Park, at Deer Meadow Lane and Pleasant Drive Rockville, MD. Long walks may also take place at other designated locations throughout the duration of this program.
Mini Seminars
At the beginning of some sessions, coaches or invited guest speakers will present short talks exercise, nutrition, stretching, cross-training.
Communication and Training Information
Once you have registered for the program you will be invited to join a Yahoo group which will serve as the primary means of communicating news and information about the program, as well as the place to find our training schedule, articles and other information which will be of importance to you in your training. The invite to the yahoo group will be sent near the start of the program.
Members should keep abreast of all club news by joining MCRRC - INFO.
Program Cost
MCRRC members and PCR members fee is $15.00. Non MCRRC members fee is $25.00. MCRRC membership is not required for participation in the 5K Walking program. However, if you find you like walking and/or running in group settings, participating in club races and other sport related activities, please consider joining MCRRC. It’s a friendly and supportive organization comprised of people who share common interests of walking and running.

Training Shirts and Volunteer Requirement
Technical training program shirts will be available for purchase during the first two weeks of the program. Participants are reminded that program costs are kept low due to the volunteer nature of the club. All participants are required to assist in at least one club race or event.
