Nomination Guidelines

The MCRRC Most Improved Runner and Coach of the Year nomination forms may initially appear daunting, particularly if you are nominating someone other than yourself (both self-nominations and other-nominations are strongly encouraged!). Please be assured that your nomination will be accepted and fully considered by the awards committee even if you omit one response, or misspell the name of a club race. The rule of thumb is that the forms reflect the information that the MCRRC Awards committee would like to have, but we realize that not every nominator will be in a position to have precise answers in all instances.

So, if you know your training partner's best times this year and last at 10k and half-marathon, but do not know whether the 10k was a masters PR or was run on the same course as last year, go ahead and nominate her for Most Improved Runner with the information you have. If you know of a stellar coach but do not know how many runners he coached lifetime, go ahead and nominate him for Coach of the Year with the information you have.

If you find that you do not have any concrete information to support a nomination you wish to make (e.g., you believe that person X has improved a lot but do not know any of her or his race times from either year), we recommend that before submitting the nomination you take one of the following steps to gather some data:

(a) Inform the prospective nominee of your plan and ask him/her for the data. Most people would surely be pleased to know that you thought of them for an MCRRC award.

(b) If you prefer to keep it a secret from the nominee, put on your detective hat and gather some data yourself. For coaches this might entail asking members of the board of directors of the club, or fellow members of a club training program who would be in a position to supply more information. For runners, you might well be able to find what you need from a website such as athlinks.com, which compiles results from a wide variety of races and with one click can yield chronologically organized race results for a given runner.

If you have any questions or comments about the nomination process, please email: mcrrc.awards@gmail. com and the MCRRC Awards committee will review and/or respond to your feedback. Thanks!
